Emily Irene VanCamp originally wanted to become professional dancer. After watching her sister Katie on the Ladies Room movie set, Emily became fascinated by acting. When she was taking acting classes and directing, she was also offered guest roles on Canadian TV shows. Some of the TV series she was a part of include Are You afraid of the Dark? Radio Active, Dice. VanCamp's career exploded after being cast in the role of Sam Dolan, a regular in the series WB Horror Mystery Glory Days. Though the show garnered positive reviews, its low ratings led to it being ended after nine short episodes. Despite her May 12, 1986 birthday, the actress secured a role on Everwood with the character Amy Abbott. The role she played in the film was rewarded with 4 Teen Choice Awards nominations and the Young Artist Award.
